General Hints
Hardware check Please check hardware first with AdminTool software
We offer a special preamplifier board for the MMS module series. This allows you to read out the spectrometer module faster and at lower noise. Please contact tec5USA for retrofitting. PDF DZA-MMS-1M
Calibration Coefficients Can be saved to the Front End Electronics by means of AdminTool, tec5 uses C' coefficient set given on the Ziess protocol
Illumination
  • Make sure the whole SMA input of a module is illuminated. Most Zeiss spectrometer modules include an optical cross-section converter (fiber bundle) as optical input. If only few fibers see light then wavelength inaccuracies may occur.
  • As a consequence of such a fiber bundle input carefully adjust (by rotation) any other fiber bundle as a light delivering device to the spectrometer module.
  • If input NA is reduced by illumination, artifacts origination by the second order blocking filter may occur - which are stable as long as NA does not change
  • If NA is too small it affects also the wavelength resolution for only a small part of the grating is illuminated. For decent resolution, however, a sufficient number of grating lines has to be illuminated to create the nice interference pattern required for a high-resolving spectrum.
Cables
  • Keep cable length as short as possible
  • Apply shielding if cables are longer than 50cm
  • USB cables do not exceed 5m by specification
  • The longest successfully tested PCI cable is 8m
  • Ethernet connections are almost limitless in length
Grounding
  • Very important for a proper video signal
  • MMS: Use metal tounge of housing for imporved shielding
  • Ground shielding cables on one side only
Integration Times
  • Shortest integration time is the readout time (except for InGaAs arrays)
  • Shortest integration time for InGaAs arrays is 0.1ms
  • Longest integration time is 6.5s standard
  • Longest integration time can be extended to up to about 9 minutes, please see SDK manuals for details
Non-Linearity All detectors show non-linearities. This can be corrected by software since this is typicalyl a stable feature of a sensor. The MultiSpec Pro software features this correction.
Temperature Control Make sure heat is dissipated from a cooled sensor. Please note that the maximum temperature which can be bridged is less than 50°C. Provide a good airflow and good heat conductivity.
